On Saturday May 13th our oldest graduated from Christopher Newport University.  Our entire family was
there .
After the event we went to Cinco de Mayo, a local restaurant for a celebratory lunch.
We got there early

We arrived earlier than some. The chairs on the field were for the candidates, the faculty and some guests.
Those seats
were not filled when we got there but the stadium seats were filling up fast. It was very sunny.
I got a pretty impressive sunburn
on my right side and it was hot waiting for things to start.

Finally the candidates approached

The procession of candidates appeared around 10:15 am. They entered along the all weather track.

Bag Pipers lead the procession

Leading the way were two bag pipers and a drummer.

Is this a harvard gown?

I wondered if the crimson robe was Harvard's. The officer presented one student with his commission
as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army.

Crimson and Clover

This picture is shot from about 150 yards away. Maybe this is Harvard.

Randy is in center rounding a corner

Can you see him with his blue collar and his tall stance? He is easier to recognize here than it was looking
into the bright glare at the time.

The procession reaches their seats

The long procession of students finally reached their chairs. There were over five hundred degrees conferred.
Only
four students received a Bachelor of Science in Computer Foundations and Applied Physics.

We were sitting in the stands which filled up

The stadium was quite crowded by the time things got going.

The field filled up with students and faculty

Finally everyone was in place.

Ann Compton was the principal speaker

Ann Compton, the White House correspondent for ABC News, was the principal speaker.

Doug climbed a live oak

Doug found a great tree to climb on the way to the reception. I guessed it to be a Live Oak.

Restaurant

Julie, and Michael sat at an adjacent table. Dinner was over far too quickly and we were saying goodbye
too soon but everyone was exhausted.
It was a very nice day.
