On Saturday May 13th our oldest
graduated from Christopher Newport
University. Our entire
family was
there .
After the event we went to Cinco de
Mayo, a local restaurant for a
celebratory lunch.

We arrived earlier than some. The
chairs on the field were for the candidates, the faculty and some
guests.
Those seats were not filled
when we got there but the stadium seats were filling up fast. It was
very sunny.
I got a pretty impressive sunburn on
my right side and it was hot waiting for things to start.

The procession of candidates appeared
around 10:15 am. They entered along the all weather track.

Leading the way were two bag pipers
and a drummer.

I wondered if the crimson robe was
Harvard's. The officer presented one student with his commission
as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army.

This picture is shot from about 150 yards away. Maybe this is Harvard.

Can you see him with his blue collar
and his tall stance? He is easier to recognize here than it was looking
into the bright glare at the time.

The long procession of students
finally reached their chairs. There were over five hundred degrees
conferred.
Only four students received
a Bachelor of Science in Computer Foundations and Applied Physics.

The stadium was quite crowded by the
time things got going.

Finally everyone was in place.

Ann Compton, the White House
correspondent for ABC News, was the principal speaker.

Doug
found a great tree to climb on
the way to the reception. I guessed it to be a Live Oak.

Julie, and Michael sat at an
adjacent table. Dinner was over far too quickly and we were saying
goodbye
too soon but everyone was exhausted. It was a very nice day.
